Tram Juice
Tramlines
in Amsterdam, in the late 1970's.
I remember the rain had just stopped, but the clouds were still heavy with water. I looked up and noticed the lines of the overhead electricity supply for the city trams, clearly visible against the background of the thick cloud layer.
The bridge is in Amsterdam-Zuid, crossing the Amstel River from which the city takes its name. These pictures were shot on Ilford film, with a long forgotten camera.
I had never printed these pictures before. Only processed the negatives, which I used to do using a Patterson film tank, I remember that. Black, with a red line on the screw-top lid. Fiddling in the dark, to spool the film into the circular plastic film holder. And how long it all took! Still, we managed to get a lot done. And I would much rather pour developer into the tank, than beer into myself.
