Chardin
Studies after Chardin
Some of my early studies after Chardin. This is a copy of the painting labelled 'Peaches and a glass of red wine' which is in the Louvre where I could study it in close detail. I also made a number of photographs, and together with the reproductions I had found in books, I then made the painting in my own studio.
Two more studies after Chardin. These are on plywood panels - I think the natural grain of the wood enhances the atmosphere of the paintings, which to me is important when trying to replicate this old French master.
The two small panels are set in a traditional Dutch type of wooden frames, the larger canvas was framed with a linen passepartout set in a gilt laurel-leaf moulding.
One more attempt at the glass with silver chalice. No larger view.
