Jugs & Jars

Earthenware

Various still life paintings

Earthenware
Oil on Canvas, 2008
40 x 40 cm

This antique vase belongs to my eldest sister. She found it in a small shop in the Dutch province of Zeeland in the 1970's. I painted the vase on a slab of Scottish slate as I remember their shape and colour and texture from the wine cellar in our former house in Scotland.

"Wine Jugs"
Oil on canvas, 2008
40 cm x 50 cm

These wine jugs are made of German pottery clay. Magnums of the past, I call them. The largest one has a capacity of 5 litres. I made a few other paintings of these three jugs.

"Milk Jug"
Oil on canvas, 2008
30 cm x 40 cm

This milk jar is special for its blue glazing on the handle which is normally grey. I found the sugar bowl on an open air fleece market, some 25 years ago.

The antique knife in the painting was a loan from Henk Mulder, a fine art painter from Holten, a small village in the vicinity of 'Art City' Deventer along the IJssel river.
