Van Gogh Letters

The letters from Vincent van Gogh to his brother Theo, in the original publication from 1914, are a major inspiration to me for their content. To commemorate the republication in 2009 by the Van Gogh Museum, they are now also the subject of an actual painting.

Small Bibles

Silver clasps keep these Bibles closed, the watch has a broken minute hand and the candle has burnt up. All the exact opposite of my daily life.

Green background

Three paintings set in similar silver and black shadow frames and therefore 'hung' together. Full descriptions can be found on the various individual pages on this website.

Fruit & Vegetables

Various smaller oil paintings on wooden board or composite. The first two are set in classical black polished frames, the next three are framed with a wide black frame and linen inset, while for the last painting, of the two apples, an oversize gilt frame was used.

Bronze & Copper

A heavy, cast bronze mortar and pestle on a slab of Scottish slate.

The copper pan is a from a traditional artisan in Florence. To get the artichoke right I first made a study, which is the small painting a few steps back.

Storage Jars

Earthenware Wine Jars, possibly German. Magnums are not a new invention.

The painting is on display in my exhibition at HK Gallery in Deventer.
