Tiled backgrounds
Changing the look in one go. Tiled backgrounds have a defining impact on the look and feel of a website. On the Waldmark, I have used more than one, depending on the content of the different sections. There are thousands of website where you can download tiled backgrounds. Most of them are hobby-sites and suited for hobby-sites only.
I have come across a couple of really excellent backgrounds. You' find them here:
- Floral tiled backgrounds from Tickie's Web Page Themes.
- Marble tiled backgrounds from the Inspiration Gallery
- Full size old paper background from CaffeineOverdose.
Favicons
The small icon in the url bar
Favicons are simple and small. Many times when you browse the internet, there's a tiny icon before the http-address in your browser. These are called favicon and are simple to make if you know how.
But even easier than making them yourself is having a machine make them for you and that's the reason for the following link. Just follow the instructions and you're done.
Browsers
The number one requirement to enjoy browsing the internet
Get a proper browser! Many people are quite indifferent to getting a continuous stream of irritating pop-up boxes appearing on their screen, or websites not looking the way they were meant to. Do they feel they "owe it to MS" or something, to remain a loyal Explorer user?
If you're not like them, I would seriously advise you to get Firefox. It's so incredibly easy. It's completely free. And MS won't take you to court if you abandon their browser (they're too busy defending themselves there). So here is the way to shake off the chains: get firefox! Firefox protects you from viruses, spyware and pop-ups. Enjoy improvements in performance, ease of use and privacy. It's easy to import your favourites and settings and get started.

Food for vision
Do not do it all alone! Well, even we wanted to, we couldn't. There's just too much going on in Codeland to figure things out all by oneself. Here are some of the people/pages where I found help and inspiration.
I use these PNG drop shadows on this site. From Big John at PositionIsEverything.
